DAN MURPHY lives and works in Philadelphia, PA

Dan Murphy was born in 1976. He attended Catholic, public, and private schools growing up. During and after high school he did as much graffiti as he could until he was arrested several times and eventualy moved to New York, where he attended some shitty art school. After quickly dropping out, he returned to Philadelphia to try to vandalize the few spots that he wasn’t able to complete during his initial effort. While shooting photos of his work as well as others work, which was quickly being erased during that time, he began to pay closer attention to the few non-graffiti photos that were showing up on his rolls of film. Dan’s focus on progressing as not just a graffiti writer with a camera, but rather a “real” photographer led to the publication of his first book Stuck On The Map in 2002. Since then he has spent his time on photographing for, as well as co-publishing Megawords Magazine, a free magazine known internationally for it’s unique presentation and redefinition of the possibilities of printed matter when not confined by advertisers. Dan continues to travel and photograph all things visually relevant, especially graffiti.
