The Lomographic Society
Lomography started in the early 1990’s as an artistic approach to photography using a small, enigmatic Russian camera, the Lomo Kompakt Automat. The approach was to take as many photographs (Lomographs) as possible in the most impossible of situations possible and from the most unusual positions possible, and then having them developed as cheaply as possible.
Lomography has since grown into a far-reaching, international socio-cultural movement, using photography as a creative approach to communicate, absorb and capture the world. Today Lomographic Society International is a globally active organization dedicated to experimental and creative snapshot photography. Boasting over 500,000 members across the world, the idea of Lomography encompasses an interactive, vivid, blurred and crazy way of life.
This development has been supported by the marketing of products that have since been 'discovered' or specially developed by the Lomographic Society: extraordinary snapshot cameras (for example, 4-lensed cameras, Colorsplash or Holga), photographic accessories such as special bags and fashion, Lomographic publications and so on. |
